I’ve been looking at the online ad campaign for a few brands, but the digital profile for Skittles caught my eye. Not because of how amazing and creative it is, but because of how it’s just plain weird.
For the past few years, Skittles has been known for having many nonsensical commercials air on television. From a man who turns everything he touches into Skittles to kids that have Skittles-Pox, the commercials that have aired have been weird.
Recently Skittles got into the online/social media game. By gaining likes on Facebook and, most recently, followers on Twitter, Skittles has been able to spread their oddities throughout cyberspace.
I feel as though it doesn’t help this weird company as much as it should. All I see Skittles doing on Facebook is posting and Twitter is posting the silliest, most random facts possible, sometimes having nothing to do with Skittles.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good laugh, and I could forgive this silliness if it weren’t for the fact that Skittles fails to interact with their audience on any of their pages, most noted when the outcries due to the lime skittle being changed to green apple went unanswered.
